A deepfake of me is being shared.
A convincing fake of something you never did is deeply violating. It is also removable - and the faster you move, the less it spreads. Here's what to do.
Preserve evidence, don't share it further
Screenshot where it appears, the URLs, accounts posting it, and timestamps. Do not forward it, even to warn people - each share widens its reach. Keep evidence in a private folder.
Report it under the right category
Most platforms now have specific reporting for synthetic or manipulated media and for non-consensual intimate imagery, which is treated with urgency. Use those categories - they route to specialised teams and act fastest.
Use hash-matching takedown tools
For intimate images, services exist that create a digital fingerprint of the image so platforms can detect and block copies without you re-sharing it. This stops re-uploads, not just the first copy.
Escalate if it involves a minor or intimate content
This is illegal in many places and handled as an emergency by platforms and, where appropriate, law enforcement. Do not hesitate to involve the authorities - you are the victim here.
Chase every copy
Fakes get re-uploaded and mirrored. Removing the first post is rarely the end. Track where it reappears and report each instance - persistence is what actually clears it.
